YouTube announces an update full of new features; See what changes

YouTube is launching new functionality to improve content playback on mobile devices, music search on the platform and even a feature that highlights ‘Like and Subscribe’ buttons using voice commands for content creators.

  • The service will also make it easier to change the playback speed of videos. With the new update, users can simply tap and hold anywhere on the player to increase the speed to 2x, for example.
  • Additionally, when you scroll forward or backward through a video, vibration will indicate the starting point.
  • Google also offers a feature called Stable Volume, which prevents sudden variations in video volume, in addition to the ability to find a song on the platform by voice or by singing (a function that has been in testing since August).
  • For those who access YouTube via cell phone and tablet, the app will also get a screen lock feature to prevent accidental touches.

The Library tab and Account page will be combined into a new tab called You, with your watched videos, playlists, downloads, and purchases, as well as account and channel information.

Anyone who consumes a significant amount of content on YouTube has probably also heard the infamous phrase: “Click like and subscribeWell, the company is now turning this feature into a native feature. When a creator says the words, YouTube will highlight these buttons with a synchronized visual alert (it’s not yet clear if users will be able to turn the feature off).

Finally, Google is also updating the video description menu. Previously, the page took up the entire screen. Now, elements like the video description, comments, and subscribe button will be placed in a vertical list that only appears when the user clicks on the video title.
