This Thursday morning (14), the Federal Police, with the support of the Comptroller General of the Federation, carried out an operation against a group suspected of entering false data into the computerized systems of the Unified Health System (SUS) of the municipality of Saints Urbano.

Four search warrants were executed in Vargem Grande and Urbano Santos, and equipment was confiscated at the Urbano Santos Health Department, in addition to the isolation of public employees. However, the names of the targets were kept secret by the police forces.

The operation is the result of investigations that showed how government employees enter false data into SUS systems, to make it appear as an increase in the number of health care services, and thus the municipality receives more federal resources. Subsequently, there is a suspicion that the “extra” money received may have been misappropriated.

In the case of Urbano Santos, investigations identified distortions in the production of outpatient procedures related to rehabilitation after COVID-19, funded by the Strategic Actions and Compensation Fund.

The Federal Police found that Urbano Santos, with a population of 33,459, A total of 81,012 post-Covid rehabilitation operations would have been recordedResulting in the receipt of resources amounting to R$ 1,757,150.28 from FAEC, from January to May 2022, With only three general physiotherapists registered in the municipality.

To give you an idea, the amount allocated to Urbano Santos is higher than the resources transferred to several states in the country, such as Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and São Paulo.

Hey g1 He is trying to contact the Urbano Santos City Council, which has not yet commented on the process.

In the overall context, Maranhão was the state that received the most resources from the Department of Health for post-Covid rehabilitation treatments. In the period from January to May 2022 alone, R$ 19,753,712.01 was transferred, which corresponds to about 93.3% of the total amount allocated.

The investigation also concluded that the main persons involved and/or responsible for entering false data into health systems, at municipal level, are expenditure managers/organisers and their authorized assistants – so-called “typists”.

In another city, Mata Roma, a city with a population of 17,000, the money received for post-Covid treatment was more than all the cities of Rio de Janeiro combined (See the video below)

The fraud is blatant, as there are many patients treated simultaneously in more than one municipality, and sometimes, the sequential order of patients in the municipalities is identical, said Public Prosecutor Jurassi Guimarães, in charge of the MPF proceedings.

In Maranhão, one resident receives 500 medical appointments in one year. “I received no treatment,” he says.

This doesn’t just happen in Urbano Santos or Mata Roma
