Season two of Rings of Power

Even with a divisive first season that was heavily panned by The Lord of the Rings fans, the Prime Video spin-off series has been renewed for a second season.

Filming for the new episodes began in October last year at Bray Studios in the UK, unlike the first season, which was recorded in New Zealand.

There’s no premiere date yet, but the new season is expected to arrive sometime in 2024.

“The first season is a reintroduction to Middle-earth. Many fans looked forward to visiting places they had never been before, like Númenor. We had to introduce the characters, the kingdoms, their people, the legends, while telling a story (…) but now that everything is Something in motion, with the first three episodes created, we can move on to some key events that people are excited to see,” John D. Payne, co-showrunner of the series, said in an interview with People’s Mail.

Another showrunner, Patrick McKay, said that season two would have Sauron as a more present-day villain. McKay commented, “The first season is about the rise of evil.” “In the second, evil has already appeared, is active and has a plan.”

The Rings of Power is part of The Lord of the Rings

The Prime Video series tells the story of how the beings were created and how Middle Earth’s first encounter with Sauron was. The spin-off takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic trilogy that was adapted to film by Peter Jackson.

The Rings of Power feature younger versions of the characters that appear in the trilogy, such as Galadriel (Morfydd Clark in the series and Cate Blanchett in the films) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo in the series and Hugo Weaving in the films).
