City Hall reported that surveillance is constantly checking the Eloy Chaves Botanical Garden

The Environmental Health Surveillance (VISAM) of the Health Promotion Management Unit (UGPS) explains that it carries out continuous inspections to monitor the level of tick infestation and constantly provide appropriate instructions in the municipal parks, with the last visit in the Botanical Garden Parque Eloy Chaves taking place last week.

The Ministry of Health reports that there are no porpoises on site, but there are different animals that act as hosts for different types of ticks, such as birds and pets, which requires greater attention from residents regarding prevention measures.

“We emphasize that ticks cannot be effectively controlled using chemical products,” a memo from Environmental Health Watch says.

VISAM also emphasizes that for someone to become infected with the bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii, which causes spotted fever, they must be parasitized by ticks of the genus Amblyomma — commonly known as star ticks — for at least four hours.

It is known that less than 1% of the tick population in the environment may be contaminated, and this occurs particularly in areas with significant water hog circulation, which does not occur at Eloy Botanical Garden.

The Eloy Chaves Botanical Garden is scheduled to be renovated next year, adds the Public Infrastructure and Services Management Unit (UGISP).

The Town Hall will build an administrative area, renovate the bathrooms, replace all wooden railings, fences and bridges, as well as improve the sand court and implement LED lighting.
