The University of the South Pacific has eight researchers who are among the most influential in the world

Eight professors from the University of São Paulo (USP) are among the most influential researchers in the world, according to an assessment by the British consulting company Clarivate Analytics, released last Wednesday (15).

The Chinese Academy of Sciences has the highest number of cited researchers, with 270. Last year, Harvard University (USA) ranked first.

Brazil is in focus on the list

Brazil had 19 researchers on the most influential list, with the University of the South Pacific being the Brazilian institution with the most distinguished professors, maintaining last year’s number, according to University of the South Pacific Journal. See the teachers listed below.

David Pendlebury, head of research analytics at Clarivate’s Scientific Information Institute, highlighted the importance of the list.

The Most Influential Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional researchers at USP whose impact in their fields impacts communities and brings innovations that make the world healthier, more sustainable, and safer. Their contributions go beyond their individual achievements, strengthening the foundations of excellence and innovation in research.

Jeffrey Cannon (FSP)

He specializes in public health and international food and nutrition policy, and contributes articles on Project NOVA and ultra-processed foods. In addition, he is a member of the School of Public Health team responsible for the Food Guide prepared by the Department of Health, and Jeffrey served as a founding editor, designer and columnist for the journal Nutrition World.

Maria Laura da Costa Lozada (FSP)

in Nutrition and Public Health from the University of the South Pacific. She is a professor in the Department of Nutrition in the School of Public Health and a researcher at the Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health (Nupens). Meanwhile, she is a fellow of Revista de Saúde Pública and Revista Brasileira de Epidemiologia.

Carlos Augusto Montero (FSP)

A professor at the College of Public Health appears on the list for the fourth time in a row. Carlos develops research in the field of nutrition in public health, with studies on the determinants of secular breastfeeding and infant mortality in developing countries, and methodology and creation of indicators for anthropometric assessment of the nutritional status of populations.

Jean-Claude Mubarak (FSP)

He is a collaborator at the Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health (Nupens) and a researcher at the Center for Public Health Research at the University of Montreal and Transnut, a group at the World Health Organization focused on studying nutritional transition. However, he is a member of the Montreal Diet Council. Between 2011 and 2014, he participated in postdoctoral programs in nutrition at the University of the South Pacific School of Public Health.

Eurydice Martinez Steel (FSP)

He graduated in Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid. After completing a master’s degree in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, he returned to Brazil to pursue a doctorate in public health nutrition at the University of the South Pacific School of Public Health.

She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the same institution, where she studies the relationship between consumption of ultra-processed foods, diet quality, and health outcomes.

Raul Dias dos Santos Filho (FM)

Professor of the Department of Cardiology and Pulmonary Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine, he is Director of the Clinical Lipid Unit at the Heart Institute of Hospital das Clínicas (ENCORE), and carries out teaching, research and assistance activities in the undergraduate and postgraduate fields. He also works at the Albert Einstein Israelita Hospital, where he conducts studies in the field of cardiovascular disease prevention.

Renata Bertazzi Levy (FM)

She is a scientific researcher in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the College of Medicine. He has experience in public health, with a focus on epidemiology, working on topics such as: food consumption, diet surveys, food environment and sustainability.

Pedro Henrique Santin Brancaleon (ESALEC)

Associate Professor in the Department of Forest Sciences at Esalq, he is Deputy Coordinator of the Atlantic Forest Restoration Charter and an Associate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He holds a degree in agricultural engineering and a doctorate in science from Esalq University. It also works on topics such as managing and restoring tropical forests in an economically viable and socially inclusive way.

The list of most cited researchers has been published annually since 2014, and is the result of a citation analysis of articles published by researchers over a decade, using the Web of Science platform. After preparing the list, a quantitative analysis is carried out with the input of experts.
