The Ministries of Planning, Budget and Finance announced on Friday (22) that it will be necessary to withhold an additional amount of R$ 600 million in this year’s budget.

The information is contained in the budget revenues and expenditures report for the fourth two months. The report is issued every two months.

This so-called “emergency” is necessary to meet the current spending limit for 2023 – approved at the end of last year through the so-called transitional PEC and confirmed in the Fiscal Framework (the new rule for public accounts).

And with this The total value of expenditures prohibited in the 2023 budget rose to 3.8 billion Brazilian reais.

Details of the ministries whose funds will be restricted will not be published until the end of this month. Incidental expenditures include investments and financing from the public sector.

Government accounts hacked in 2023

The Ministries of Finance and Planning also lowered their expectations for the deficit in government accounts this year, in the report issued today, Friday (22).

A primary deficit occurs when spending exceeds revenues and does not take into account interest spending on the public debt. When revenues are higher, the result is a surplus.
