The federal government is considering building a new airport in São Paulo

Minister Silvio Costa Filho says the location has not been identified and confirms that the municipality of Cailleras is one possibility

Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa FilhoHe said on Thursday (October 26, 2023) that the federal government is analyzing the construction of another airport in São Paulo. According to him, necessity and feasibility studies should be completed in the first half of 2024.

We spoke with economic agents who pointed out the need for another airport in São PauloCosta Filho said, noting that there is interest in investment from the private sector.

When asked whether the airport would be built in the municipality of Caieras, 30 kilometers from the capital, São Paulo, he replied that the decision had not yet been made. “This is a possibility, but we are discussing alternatives“, he stated.

On Thursday (October 26), the minister made a technical visit to Congonhas Airport in the southern region of the capital, Sao Paulo. There, he attended the presentation of the investment plan of the new franchisee running the site, Aena Brasil, for the next 30 years.

Investments during this period will amount to R$2 billion. They include the construction of a new passenger lounge, expansion of the aircraft apron, revitalization of the façade and expansion of the far departure lounge, among other improvements.
