The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Federal University of Kariri (UFCA) have signed a partnership for training in fish farming. Resources amounting to approximately R$ 1.7 million will be invested in this course for small-scale producers and family farmers in the Carere region of Ceara.
The resources will enable the revitalization of environments and the acquisition of equipment that will make the existing infrastructure productive, such as the restoration of 25 tanks, the installation of aquaponics systems, which involves combining plant nutrition with fish recycling water, and the proposal of alternative feeds for fish. The course is the first research, innovation and technology transfer project in the agri-food system for family farmers engaged in fish and aquaponics in controlled environments.
“MCTI’s participation in such projects that bring technology and innovation to those at the forefront is extremely important. It is activities such as these that stimulate local arrangements, move the solidarity economy and create cycles,” explained the Minister of Science and Technology for Social Development (SEDES), Iñacio Arruda.
