Capcom cancels fan-made Resident Evil remake

“Unfortunately, Capcom has contacted us and canceled our projects. We are very sorry to inform you that they canceled out of pure malice, as there are no indications that they ever produced an official Veronica code,” the official Discord post of the game’s launch stated.

Unfortunately for the creators of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Capcom claimed the cancellation was due to the use of Capcom characters and its own brand: Resident Evil. The studio has not commented on whether it intends to continue with the project or if fans can give up on remaking the title.

Showing that they are unhappy with Capcom’s decision to cancel the community build, the project’s official website has only one sentence describing the topic: “Capcom has decided to cancel the project,” the official website said. It’s still live, but no more information about Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

The main version of the game was released in February 2000. At that time, the title received versions for PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, Nintendo GameCube and Xbox 360. Later, Capcom tried to release the title for other versions of Sony console, such is the case with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
