A family asks for help in operating a bedridden woman suffering from a rare cancer

A family from the municipality of Marechal Candido Rondón, who has relatives in Toledo, is looking for funds to pay for the surgery of Alenedy Rosa Manetti, 48. She has been fighting cancer since 2013 (chondrosarcoma level 02), a rare malignant bone tumor.

At the moment, Alenide is terminally ill with very little quality of life. She had been treating a benign tumor since 2013, but in 2022 she was diagnosed with stage 02 malignant chondrosarcoma.

She needs surgery to completely amputate one of her legs, as this tumor cannot be treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The 48-year-old woman also developed tumors in her shoulder and hip and needed to undergo this operation.

According to one of Alenide’s daughters, Bianca Werkhausen, there are no Marechal Cândido Rondon specialists, nor in the area. Her daughter said, “I have seen many doctors, but because it is a rare type of cancer, none of them are specialized and can offer a more effective treatment.”

The daughter states that the only way to restore some quality of life to her mother is through surgery, but the specialist in charge of the procedure is from Teresina, Piauí.

“We found the doctor who gives us all the help, Bruno Monti, but the surgery is very expensive, in addition to the transfers. We had to go with her by plane and stay there for a few days. Neither the SUS nor the insurance cover the expenses for this surgery. Therefore, we ask for this help from the population,” Bianca explained.

The daughter also commented on her mother’s current condition and the fact that only surgery could improve this scenario. “Currently she is bedridden and has zero quality of life, she lives with pain 24 hours a day. The surgery will amputate the tumor and improve her quality of life. With this she will feel less pain and be able to get out of bed, but it is not a cure, because this The disease is not curable.“It is something we are fighting to give my mother more comfort,” he said.

The surgery should cost between R$20,000 and R$25,000, but taking into account plane tickets for Anilide and two companions, as well as other expenses such as accommodation and food, it is expected that all of these logistics with the procedure will cost around R$48,000.
