More Science, from the Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology (Seduct), has awarded the best of 58 works developed in the 2022/2023 cycle of the programme. The ceremony was held at the Northern State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uenf). Six works were honored with first, second and third place, in addition to three honorable mentions for works that were tied for fourth place.

First place went to the project “Looking for Dodiscence through Siminino in the School Project”, by the author Ana Luisa Nunes Ravero Bonatti, with the guidance of Professor María Siqueira Queiroz de Carvalho, of the Instituto Federal Fluminense (IFF), working in partnership with Seduction. Second place went to “Urban Infrastructure for Active Mobility: A Qualitative Study in Campos dos Goytacazes / RJ”, by Leila Fernandez Rocha Soares, with the guidance of Professor Daniele Coser Alibrandi, also of the Instituto Federal Fluminense (IFF), working in partnership with IMTT. 3rd place “Socio-spatial dynamics and institutional capacity in urban collective service delivery: urban mobility in Campos dos Goytacazes”, by Andrew Patrick Silva Pereira, with guidance from Professor Erica Tavares da Silva Rocha of the Federal University of Fluminense (UFF), also working with IMTT.

According to the coordinator of Mais Ciência, Leonora Tinoco, three projects received the same score, thus tied for fourth place and receiving an honorable mention: “Bee hotels: a strategy for environmental education in school gardens in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes”, by Karen Castelo Emilio, under the guidance of Professor Maria Cristina Gaglianone, from the State University of Norte Fluminense (UENF), also working in partnership with Seduct; “Centre for Humanized Health Assistance”, by Raizza Cardoso da Conceição, under the guidance of Professor Marcos Menezes Alves de Azevedo of the University Center for Fluminense (UNIFLU), working with the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS); “Heritage Goitacá: Digital Tools in Heritage Education” by Isabel Erthal Farias, with guidance from IFF Professor María Catharina Reis Queiroz-Prata, and working with Fundação Cultural Jornalista Oswaldo Lima (FCJOL).

“We had a very rewarding week, presenting and evaluating 58 academic projects in an exclusive banner session at Mais Ciência, where the theme was just our municipality. We had projects in the most diverse fields, such as mobility, health, education, environment, culture, and the social sphere. Everyone is discussing and looking for solutions to the requirements of our city. The feeling is that the work has been done, and this gives more impetus to the fourth public notice of the programme, which should be launched soon,” stated the coordinator.

For the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Susana Da Hora, the completion of “More Science” at the Uenf Convention Center, the largest university in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, was very important. She added that the award is the product of the municipal government, through Seduct, working in partnership with public and private universities located in the region, and stimulating applied research in the search for solutions to community problems raised by the various municipal departments. ..

University students and their advisors deliver a year’s work to the Campista community. The result was, as expected, a lot of ingenuity, creativity, and direct application in our daily lives. Susana explained that some of these projects presented today will be deepened soon to be implemented by our municipality.
