After two years of waiting, fans can finally watch the latest season of “The Last Kingdom” on Netflix. The last part of the series will be shown on Wednesday (8).
Despite the reasons to celebrate – the new wave of episodes – fans also receive sad news in the current season.
The television production is based on Bernard Cornwell’s books from the series “The Saxon Chronicles”. With 13 volumes, the series will develop the narrative over seven seasons.
However, since it is an expensive production, BBC and Netflix decided to close ahead of schedule. The announcement was made before filming ended, which means that the producers were able to plan the ending.
However, it is very likely that this famous “bold finish”. So far, the story has continued into the eighth book, with five more volumes remaining. This should leave many stories incomplete.
The measure was taken after the pandemic, as the “Last Kingdom” had a great squad and it was necessary to pay for it during the period of isolation, even without production happening.
The solution Netflix found was to finish the loose ends with a movie, and condense the content of the final books into the feature. The production should be called “Seven Kings Must Die”.
Filming is set to take place on location in Hungary and the United Kingdom. Alexander Drymon is set to return as Uhtred, but there are no announcements yet for the rest of the cast.
The New Year of the Last Kingdom should explore the tension that exists in the kingdom due to the Norse invasions. Saxon Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) must embark on a sure voyage of conquest and the possibility of creating a nation.
