Teachers from the state network can participate in the Citizen Science Training Program – Everyday Life

Teachers from the State Education Network of Paraná can register from March 15 to 31 for the Citizen Science course at School: Teacher Training for Science Education. It is organized by the Inter-Institutional Program for Citizen Science in School (PICCE) and supported by the state government, through the state Science, Technology, Higher Education (Seti) and Education (Seed) departments.

Content including media literacy, research projects, and a science fair will be presented in a 60-hour class schedule. The aim of the program is to encourage collaborative participation, in which teachers and students participate in the scientific process, seeking solutions to the problems of the reality they enter, and in this way, stimulating the formation of citizen scientists.

Classes begin on April 22nd and continue until June 30th. There will be eight hours of synchronous classes, with real-time participation, and the rest asynchronous. The course is the result of an inter-institutional partnership that includes all public higher education institutions in Paraná. The training content will be provided through the University of Paraná Virtual Platform (UVPR), a program associated with Seti. Participants' certificates will be awarded by the Federal University of Parana (UFPR Open).

In this second edition of the Citizen Science Course at School: Teacher Training for Science Education, 500 students will be selected; 20 teachers hold administrative positions in schools and 480 teachers work in classrooms. In 2023, 494 teachers from municipal departments and the state network participated in the course.

PICCE is part of the New Arrangement for Research and Innovation (Napi) for Science Education, which aims to promote scientific publishing and communication. NAPI, proposed by the Araucaria Foundation, brings together higher education institutions in Paraná to develop and implement actions in the field of dissemination and popularization of science.
