Our ranking of the 27 most anticipated films of 2024

F.W. Munau's 1922 horror classic “Nosferatu” has been sued by Bram Stoker's widow for copyright infringement. Murnau changed the proper names from Stoker's novel Dracula, but the story and characters are almost 100% the same. Stoker's estate ordered all copies of “Nosferatu” to be destroyed.. Fortunately, some copies have survived, and Murnau's film can be considered one of the best horror films of all time. The unique appearance of Murnau's version of “Dracula” was the rat-like appearance of Count Orlok (Max Schreck). Unlike the gentle, aristocratic wizard played by Bela Lugosi in 1931, the 1922 version of Dracula was a terrifying creature, seemingly full of filth and disease. Murnau's film is a wonderful, detailed nightmare.

“Nosferatu” was remade in 1972 by Werner Herzog, who cast Klaus Kinski as the obsessed vampire and filmed it in Czechoslovakia. This film aims to highlight Murnau's film as a new German national epic, capturing the dream-like qualities of the original but presenting it in a somnambulant fashion. “Nosferatu the Vampire” is also great.

New releases also include “The Shadow of the Vampire” by E. Elias Merhige in connection with Murnau's film production. John Malkovich played Murnau and Willem Dafoe played Shrek. However, “The Shadow” posits that Shrek was actually a real vampire hired by Murnau to produce him. that's awesome

Less well-known is David Lee Fisher's remake starring Doug Jones, a film that has been in development for years but only premiered in 2023. New York Film Festival.

And in 2024 we will have the honor of seeing Robert Eggers reach the classics. Eggers has made dark, dreamy, psychologically intense films like Enchanted and The Lighthouse before, so he seems particularly suited to this material. He says this will scare you. I can not wait.
