Ohio, USA – A man shot and killed his 16-year-old daughter at the family home in Columbus, Ohio, USA, on Wednesday. The girl’s mother told police that the owner of the shooting mistook the victim, Jana Hurston, as an intruder.
The teen was shot around 4:30 a.m. The young woman’s mother then called the police and said that the father had shot someone he believed had broken into the house after activating the security system.
“My husband mistook her and shot her because he thought she was an outsider,” her mother said. “She was in our garage and my husband didn’t know what was going on. By God,” the mother added, according to her police call record.
Jana died Wednesday in a hospital in Columbus, about an hour after she was shot in her parents’ garage.
The Columbus Police Department has stated that no one has been formally charged with a crime yet. The case has been referred to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office for review.
