‘Megatraca’ changes completely, Celtics get Porzingis and Grizzlies get smart

On Wednesday afternoon (21), the potential “huge exchange” between Boston CelticsAnd Washington Wizards that it Los Angeles Clippers shook the NBA. Although uncertain, the deal ended up “passing” at the last minute when the Clippers pulled out of talks.

However, the Celtics and Wizards continued negotiating and ended up finding a solution that involved an entry Memphis Grizzlies at work and ended up with Christaps Porzingis in Boston and Marcus Smart in Memphis.

Realizing the trade, Porzingis has accepted his automatic renewal option and will earn $36 million for the 2023/2024 season. Since the deadline to accept this renewal was until midnight Thursday (22nd) US time, the teams needed to close a deal later that night and that’s what happened.

The Boston Celtics will acquire Kristaps Porcingis, the 23rd pick in the 2023 draft and a first-round pick in the 2024 draft.

The Washington Wizards will keep Teus Jones, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala and the No. 35 pick in the 2023 draft, while the Memphis Grizzlies have added Marcus Smart, Defender of the Year for the 2021/22 season, to their roster.
