Meet the world’s best beer selected in a competition in the United Kingdom | Culture

Considered one of the largest beer competitions in the world, World Beer Awards, Held in London, Ashby British Strong Ale beer, brewed in Ambaro, in the interior of São Paulo, was voted the world’s best in the bitter category, in which drinks with an alcohol strength of more than 5.5% compete.

Ashby Brewery, created in 1993, won the award for most English beer in the country where the style was created.

The winning drink has an intense and remarkable taste, malted with the tradition of English ‘ales’, four types of malt and aromatic hops, which provide flavors of almonds and yellow fruits.

This is not British Strong Ale’s first award. In 2016, he was awarded at the Copa Cervezas de America GCA. It also won gold in the European Beer Challenge that year and in 2022.

How do you decide which beer is the best?

A The competition is held in three stages. First, technical experts analyze and select the best beers from each country, each awarding gold, bronze and silver medals.

More than 3,200 breweries from approximately 50 countries participated in the first phase.

In the second phase, only gold medal winning breweries participate and compete against each other for the title of winning country in each category.

The third stage is done only with well-rated brands in the previous stage, and then, competing for the world’s best title in different categories.

In addition to winning the World’s Best award in the Bitter category, Ashby took home two bronze medals in the first phase of the competition: one with its Ashby Pilsen, in the lager category, and another with its Ashby American Pale Ale, in the pale beer category.

The brewery won a silver medal at the World Beer Awards with its Ashby Weiss, made from wheat malt and opaque.

“Winning this award at a prestigious competition like the World Beer Awards, which is a competition where breweries from many countries participate, makes us proud. A Brazilian brand winning the title of world’s best is something amazing in our history”, says Scott Ashby, founder of the brewery.
