Prince in New York 2 It wasn’t planned to be released directly on Prime Video, but the movie turned out to be the best debut of 2021 on Amazon’s streaming service, a March report indicated. And now it looks like Amazon Studios wants Eddie Murphy to star in more films for the platform.
According to Collider, the broadcaster announced a three-movie deal with the actor, to either develop or even star in it. Success is expected to be as immediate as success Prince in New York 2, which was the most-watched movie of its opening weekend, based on respondents’ responses to an online survey listing the latest on-demand movies.
“Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera. With his undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he constantly brings hilarious and innovative stories and characters to audiences around the world. To officially welcome Eddie into the Amazon family,” Amazon Studios President Jennifer Salk said in a press release.

Prince in New York Released in 1988, directed by John Landis and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film was an instant box office success, both in the United States and around the world. Altogether, the feature brought in $380 million in revenue, making a huge profit on a budget of just $36 million.
This isn’t the first time Eddie Murphy has worked on a streaming platform exclusive movie. It is worth noting that in September 2019 the actor starred in the biographical comedy My name is Dolomite to me Netflix, with three Golden Globe nominations and two Critics’ Choice figurines, but was completely ignored at the following year’s Academy Awards.
Murphy is currently working at Heavyweight Single Cop 4He will again play policeman Axel Foley who lived in the 80s action-comedy trilogy.
