An abandoned cargo ship has caught fire in the Atlantic with 3,965 vehicles on board, nearly a quarter of them by luxury car maker Porsche, according to the report. Bloomberg.
There are 1,100 cars of the brand on a ship called Felicity Ace, along with cars from the Volkswagen Group, which also includes cars from Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini, as well as those of its own brand.
The size of three football fields, the freighter Felicity Ace issued its first warning signal Wednesday morning (16) reporting a fire.
According to the Portuguese Navy, the ship’s 22 crew members have left and did not need medical attention.
The Felicity Ace left Germany for a port in Rhode Island in the United States, but encountered the problem before it reached its destination.
Volkswagen is trying to recover the ship.
The fire comes at a difficult time for automakers as they grapple with a global shortage of semiconductors, driving up car prices and declining sales in the sector.
