Madison – Today, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters announced plans to run aggressive campaigns to elect pro-conservation candidates to the Governor’s office, Senate, and Assembly in 2012. The top priority in the Campaign for Conservation 2012 is defeating Governor Scott Walker in his recall election.
“From fast-tracking wetland destruction to putting the brakes on green job development, Governor Walker’s anti-conservation agenda has failed Wisconsin. His extreme policies will result in fewer opportunities for hunting, more unsafe drinking water, and illegal polluters running roughshod over the health and safety of Wisconsin families. We will make sure voters across the state know about Scott Walker’s attacks,” said Anne Sayers, Program Director for Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters. “Allowing mining companies to expose Wisconsin families to arsenic, lead and mercury was a top priority for Governor Walker this legislative session, but conservation voters spoke loud and clear and defeated his hand-out to one mining company. Now, our top priority is to defeat Governor Walker again, this time in his recall.”
In the upcoming spring recalls, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters has endorsed candidates who will prioritize protecting clean air and water and maximizing hunting and fishing opportunities:
- Mahlon Mitchell for Lt. Governor
- Lori Compas for Senate (SD 13, Fort Atkinson)
- John Lehman for Senate (SD 21, Racine)
- Kristen Dexter for Senate (SD 23, Eau Claire)
- Donna Seidel for Senate (SD 29, Wausau)
