Student Rafael Marcelino, from the Technical Education School of the State of Pará (Itipa) Vilhena Alves, in Belém, was highlighted at the National Science Olympiad (ONC), organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).

Rafael, who won the bronze medal, is in the first year of high school, in the second period management class in the technical course offered by the Secretariat of Science, Technology, Higher, Vocational and Technological Education (Sectet).

The student says that initially participating in ONC was a game between friends to see who could advance. The student emphasizes that this story is full of experiences, mistakes, and successes, and that the result is the result of years of dedication to study.

“Just knowing when I won the medal was unbelievable. Something that would have been impossible for me. I couldn’t believe it and I couldn’t believe it even when I managed to win. I thank Etiba Vilhena Alves, it’s the school I was able to bring the medal to.

He remembers that during the trip he lost his beloved teacher, Realdo Ferreira da Costa. It was the teacher who motivated Raphael. “When we lost our history teacher, it was very heavy. But for him and for everyone in Vilhena, I carry this medal. “The feeling of representing this school in a national event is more than unique,” he says. For Rafael, the feeling of experiencing this It is a feeling of creative freedom.

The overriding feeling is one of personal and professional fulfillment, said Fania Carneiro, director of Etipa Vilhena Alves. The teacher says she has always believed in public schools and that there are conditions that make students fall in love with knowledge.

“Only if we fall in love with knowledge do we strive to improve, strive, more and more, to study, to improve what we already know. I believe that if all of us at school possessed this ability to suggest educational situations to boys, they would give a great return.

Vania also highlights that school is a laboratory for ideas and learning, and that with a group of good professionals, it is possible to build a partner institution.

Olympiad – ONC is divided into two phases and is part of the Science in School (PCE) programme, aimed at secondary school students and those in the sixth to ninth year of primary school.

In total, five Brazilian scientific societies participate: the Brazilian Physical Society (SBF), the Brazilian Chemistry Society (ABQ), the Butantan Institute, the Brazilian Astronomical Society and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp).
