U.S. exports fell during the week

According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), sales of U.S. agricultural products to foreign buyers declined in the seven days ending March 10. Exporters sold 1.84 million tonnes of maize, down 14% from the previous week, the company said. This is 14% lower than the previous week, but 64% higher than the previous four week average.

Japan is the largest buyer with 538,400 tonnes, followed by the unnamed country with 303,000 tonnes and Mexico with 235,100 tonnes, the government said. Colombia bought 179,800 tons of corn, while the United States and South Korea bought 133,600 tons. Total sales for the 2022-2023 business year starting September 1 were 204,000 tons.

Exports during the week were down 28% to 1.27 million tonnes. Wheat sales last week were 145,900 metric tons, down 53% from the previous week and the previous four-week average, the USDA said. Colombia bought 46,200 tonnes, Mexico 42,700 tonnes, Chile 29,300 tonnes, Vietnam 25,500 tonnes and Nigeria 23,600 tonnes. The total would have been higher, but an unknown target canceled 91,400 tonnes of loads.

Sales of wheat for the 2022-2023 marketing year starting June 1 are reported to be 325,600 tonnes. Wheat exports during the week were 249,500 metric tons, down 35% week-on-week, the government said.
