The first nest of dinosaur eggs in Brazil is located in the idled limestone mine in the neighborhood of Ponte Alta, 30 kilometers from the center of Uberaba, in Minas Gerais. Until then, paleontologists had only recovered isolated eggs. And the results were published in the specialized journal Scientific Reports, by the Nature group, last Thursday, 24.
Based on the analysis of the shells and assemblies of eggs, the diameter of which is about 12 cm, scientists compared the fossils with Argentine species and came to the conclusion that they belong to the group of titanosaurs that inhabited the region about eighty million years ago. . The eggs underwent a CT scan, but no traces of embryos were found inside. The study indicates that they belong to the original litter.
In 1951, the first Uberaba fossil was found. This discovery benefited from paleontological research in the municipality, which has become an international reference in the study of fossil vertebrates from the Cretaceous period.
