Nanuk, a 1-year-old Australian Shepherd, has been reunited with his family after spending more than a month roaming the ice in the Bering Sea, Alaska, US. The dog walked at least 241 kilometers during the trip, and was even bitten by another animal, possibly a seal or a polar bear.

In February, Mandy O’Regan, owner of Nanuq who lives in Gamble, Alaska, and her family were visiting Savoogna, another St. Lawrence crossed the Bering Strait when Nanook went missing with the family’s other dog, Starlight, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

Starlight reappeared a few days later, but her companion remained lost.

About a month after the little dog went missing, people in the Welsh city, 241 kilometers northeast of Savonga, began posting pictures of the animal on social media, saying it looked lost.

She reactivated her Facebook account to check it out and there was nothing else: the missing dog was really Nanuq. I was like, ‘It can’t be! This is our dog! What is he doing in wales.

Iworrigan used airline points to bring the pup home, and in early April, Nanuq was reunited with his family. With the exception of his swollen leg, with significant bite marks from an unknown animal, Nanook was in good health.
