The British Embassy hosts the anniversary event

Ambassador of the United Kingdom Stephanie Al-Khaq welcomed guests to the end-of-year celebration this Thursday (15th) at the official residence in Brasilia.

In his address, he highlighted that Brazil and the United Kingdom are experiencing moments of political transition with a change of government. “Now is the time to negotiate, build bridges and find joint solutions to the challenges facing the British and Brazilian people,” he said.

Al-Khaq recalled that there are still a series of projects and initiatives led by the embassy to demonstrate the strength of the bilateral partnership. “I want to reaffirm that Brazil is a priority for the United Kingdom,” he said.

Currently, the most significant partnership between the United Kingdom and Brazil is in the area of ​​health, as more than half of Brazilians have received at least one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine developed by the University of Oxford.

“In the area of ​​climate, the British government has committed to investing £11.6 billion in international climate action around the world. We want to deepen our partnership with Brazil in environmental and green development activities. We want to move forward together towards a more sustainable world! I also recognize that the British government is Brazil’s second largest partner in science and innovation. I want to highlight,” he emphasized.

The diplomat also spoke about Christmas traditions in his country, “The oldest Christmas tree in the world is in a park in Bedfordshire, England. It was planted in 1856 and brought to a mansion every year, where it was decorated for family celebrations. After Christmas, the tree was replanted in the park.
