Swiss cheese outperforms 4,400 competitors and crowns the best in the world

If in 2021, The best cheese in the world was Spanish and made from goat’s milkThe reality in 2022 is very different: the winner of the 34th edition of the World Cheese Awards – the dispute for the title of ‘cheesemaker’ – was crowned with Swiss cheese.

Last week, a mature Swiss Gruyere, made with pure cow’s milk, won the endorsement of 250 judges from 38 countries – a group of producers, chefs, taste researchers and more – and won a tough competition.

4,434 cheeses competed for first place at the 2022-2023 World Cheese Awards, which were held this year in Wales. Le Gruyère AOP, produced by Vorderfultigen and refined by Gourmino, was what stood out and ended up being described by judges as a “truly polished cheese,” melting in the mouth with notes of herbs, fruits and leather. “It’s cheese with lots of flavor and bouquet,” the examinees reportedly told CNN.

Also according to American Car, the judges took into account the cheese’s appearance (the consistency of crust and crumb), aroma, texture, texture and taste.

For Denis Casser, Director of International Marketing at Le Gruyère AOP, the title was the result of teamwork.

“It shows the quality behind the work of all these people together: 1,900 dairy farmers, 155 cheese makers, and 11 refineries. This collaborative work results in a high-quality cheese style loved by the consumer. Le Gruyère represents. Big congratulations to producer Vorderfultigen and Gourmino’s refinery.”
