The capital, São Paulo, and ten other cities will benefit from the federal government's expansion program of the IFs (Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology), which will build 100 new campuses in all 27 units of the country.

In the municipality of São Paulo, two units are planned in the expansion plan, in the neighborhoods of Jardim Ángela and Cidade Tiradentes. In addition, the cities of Carabiquipa, Cotia, Diadema, Franco da Rocha, Maua, Osasco, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Vicente and Somare were selected to receive the new IFs.

Together the municipalities have a population of more than 15.5 million. In Osasco, Franco da Rocha, Cotia and Carapequipa, the new financial institutions will be the first to be built in these cities.

Federal institutes are institutions specialized in vocational and technological education, and also offer basic and higher education. The courses offered in the modules are free. Institutes are legally obliged to guarantee at least 50% of their places to offer technical courses at secondary level, mainly in an integrated format, i.e. alongside secondary education.
