Public school brothers stand out in the science and technology competition

Brothers Pedro and Carlos Henrique Oliveira, students of Onedi de Souza Tavares State School, in Ananendua, won second place at the 14th Akai Institute Science and Technology Exhibition (MCTIA), held last Friday (24). Through the project “Hyperfocus for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Incidents of Snake Venom and Folk Medicine in the Para Amazon Region of Cotigba Island,” the boys emerged in the Biology, Intermediate level category.

The bibliographic and field research included an investigation to identify the natural characteristics of snakes and the social relationships maintained by the people of Cotiguba Island with venom-related incidents. The work was supervised by Professors Valdir Barros and Isabel Ferreira.

“The research was used in the process of adapting the student to full-time secondary school education, especially in the field of natural sciences, with the teaching of subjects in the components of biology, chemistry and physics. “It is important to emphasize that secondary education aims to encourage and appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit of students,” emphasizes the teacher. Isabel Ferreira.

After being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, Pedro Henrique, a full-time high school student, says his dream was always to pursue a career in science.

“It’s an important milestone for me, because it’s been my dream since I was young, to pursue a career, to be a biologist or a scientist, and I hope the project will change people’s thinking and help with inclusion, not just us with autism spectrum disorder, but those with deficits.” The other. Moreover, I hope that traditional medicine and animal conservation will not be lost, because they are part of our culture, and our lives and our animals do not deserve to suffer as much as they already do. “I am very happy,” says student Pedro Henrique.

With family connections, Year 8 primary school student, Carlos Henrique, was also part of the research. “This is a huge milestone in my life. I am very happy about this achievement, which goes back not only to my own achievement, but to the school, our mentors, our family, our teachers and everyone who helped us get to where we are today. It is very difficult for me to describe the feelings, happiness, euphoria and excitement “In addition to all this happiness, because of our status, I am also happy to receive accreditation to participate in another exhibition, so it is a series of factors that I cannot describe,” the student says.

For the school’s principal, Elisabet Ivanovic, the brothers are the heroes of the novel, the beginning of great journeys for the students and the community. “The Oneide School community was very happy with the result, as it is our first year in high school, and in full-time status. Our student Pedro Henrique, who overcame the TEA challenges, with the support of his mother, brother and school team, gave a beautiful presentation. We are just opening up their paths.” “Just like Pedro and Carlos, we have others and I am very happy,” the manager said.

The Açaí Institute of Science and Technology Fair is the largest event in the Nordic region.
