Nicola has announced a recall of around 209 battery-powered commercial trucks. An external investigation revealed that the fire may have started in one of the vehicles due to a defective part of the battery.

The company said part of the battery in one of the trucks may have caused a coolant leak. On June 23, a fire broke out in a truck parked at the company’s headquarters in Phoenix after the battery overheated.

Nicola initially suggested that a crime might have caused the fire, but later explained that a company hired to investigate the fire indicated that this was unlikely.

The recalled vehicles represent 60% of the battery-electric heavy-duty trucks the company produced last year and all trucks shipped to customers.

The trucks are in use at dealerships or with commercial haulage companies. The remaining unsold trucks are parked at Nikola’s property.
