MG will integrate with the Institute of Olive Oil Science and Technology

The state of Minas Gerais is a reference when talking about olive cultivation in Brazil, the first extraction of extra virgin olive oil in Brazil was carried out, for example, by the Agricultural Research Corporation of Minas Gerais (Ipameg) more than 14 years ago. Now the research company will be part of the National Institute of Brazilian Olive and Olive Oil Cultivation Science and Technology, along with other institutions and research units of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa).

The Olive Cultivation Institute has been approved in a public notice by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), in favor of the olive oil production chain. In addition to research companies and Brazilian universities, INCT will partner with institutions from Uruguay, Italy and Spain. The goal is to meet the requirements of Brazilian olive cultivation.

Epamig will actively participate in meetings and decisions of the new INCT, and the research company Minas Gerais already has four approved studies dealing with the basic stages of olive cultivation, including: seedling production in nurseries, soil fertility, plant nutrition, post-harvest production and agro-industrial processing.
