EA Sports FC 24 sold 30% less than FIFA 23 in the UK

EA Sports FC 24 becomes the UK’s second biggest physical media release in 2023. According to GamesIndustry.biz, the game surpassed Hogwarts Legacy, but fell short of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

However, physical sales of EA Sports FC 24 are 30% lower than those of FIFA 23, the last chapter of the franchise before Electronic Arts broke with the Football Confederation and changed the name of the series.

According to GamesIndustry.biz director Chris Dring, EA expected the name change in EA Sports FC 24 to affect sales of the new game, as the FIFA name had been used for 25 years.

Interestingly, only the Nintendo Switch version of EA Sports FC 24 sold more than FIFA 23 last year. This may have happened after the company removed the “Legacy Edition” title from past editions, a minor update to players and teams, not a new game.

In terms of physical editions… UK launch sales of EA Sports FC on Switch are up (slightly) compared to the launch of FIFA 23. It is the only site to record year-on-year sales growth. I wondered why? (know why)

This year, the Nintendo Switch version uses the Frostbite graphics engine, which brings a completely new game, many new features and other formats.

Across all platforms, EA Sports FC 24 features the inclusion of women in the Ultimate Team, allowing for mixed teams with both genders. The best leagues from England, France, Germany, Spain and USA are included in Classic mode.
