Science has advanced on the subject of animal intelligence and has come to interesting conclusions on a controversial topic. After all, who is smarter: a dog or a cat? Even if you have these animals at home and already have an opinion on the matter, there is data that deserves to be analyzed more carefully.

A study at Vanderbilt University in the USA analyzed neurological differences found in pets. That’s why, in 2017, I gave a slightly more accurate answer about the intelligence of dogs and cats. In fact, data from several carnivores was analyzed in the study.
Who has more intelligence: dogs or cats? understand
According to the study, dogs have more than twice the amount of gray matter than cats. This means that the brain is much larger, which is not an impressive fact, because the size of animals is completely different.
However, it is necessary to remember that the so-called “gray cells” are associated with reasoning, reasoning, complex behavior and, above all, intelligence. Dogs have an average of 530 million neurons, while cats have approximately 250 million.
Humans, for example, have 86 billion neurons, which make up the entire complex system that translates to people’s intelligence.
What does the data mean?
In practice, what happens is that the more neurons that watch, the higher the level of intelligence. Contrary to popular belief, the size of the brain is not directly related to the number of neurons in it.
A golden dog, for example, has more neurons than, say, a lion, brown bear, or hyena. Including, the brain of a bear is 10 times larger than that of a cat, but it contains approximately the same amount of neurons.
Another interesting fact to note is that the fact that an animal is a carnivore is not directly related to the intelligence it possesses. Evolutionarily speaking, it seems, herbivores had to adapt and become smarter in order to survive.
