For wheat, winter grain was less than 30% in the 19th week of the year.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Monday estimated 27% of the country’s winter wheat crop in good condition, down 2 percentage points from the previous week, lower than analysts’ expectations.
The department’s weekly crop progress report showed that farmers had planted 49% of their maize crop, with warmer, drier climates in the Midwest expected to eventually allow farmers to resume work on late planting.
One week ago, a USDA report showed that 22% of farmers had grown maize.
For wheat, the best-winter winter grain rating was less than 30% of USDA records in the late 1980s, 28% in 1996 and 25% in 1989.
