Nestl is sending baby milk by air due to shortages in the United States

Nestl will export its baby formula to the United States by air from Switzerland and the Netherlands, the company said on Tuesday (17).

Exports particularly include two hypoallergenic milk brands because deficiency is an additional source of stress for parents of children who are intolerant to cow’s milk proteins.

A spokesman for the group told AFP, “We have prioritized these products because they respond to critical medical needs.”

Both Gerber Good Start Extensive HA and Alfamino brands are imported to the United States, usually from Holland and Switzerland, respectively.

Now, due to shortages, the committee has decided to send them by air to “respond to immediate needs”, a spokesman said. Nestl owns two factories in the United States for the production of infant milk.

The shortage, initially caused by supply chain problems and a labor shortage caused by the epidemic, worsened when the Abbott Laboratory in Michigan closed after withdrawing products suspected of causing the deaths of two children.

Yesterday, Abbott signed a deal with U.S. officials to resume production at the plant.
