Johnny Depp follows the path of Amber Heard and also appeals the court’s decision

It looks like the legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has taken on a new chapter. On Friday (22), the actor filed an appeal in the defamation lawsuit brought by his ex-wife. The new request came a day after the actress sought a final decision in the multi-million dollar lawsuit that convicted her of defaming the Hollywood star.

“Plaintiff and Defendant John C. Depp II, through their attorneys, are appealing to the Virginia Court of Appeals for all negative decisions and this Circuit Court’s final sentencing order of June 24, 2022,” they read. Documents delivered to Fairfax Court, in Virginia, United States.

Six weeks into the trial, Depp was ordered to pay his ex-wife $2 million for defamatory statements. The actress also ended up being penalized and would have to compensate him with $10 million. But Amber’s defense demanded that the trial be annulled.

“We believe the court made errors that prevented a fair and consistent judgment of the First Amendment,” a Heard spokesman said in a statement on the appeal. The lawyer concluded by saying: “Therefore, we are appealing the ruling. Although we understand that today’s request will light the fires of Twitter, there are measures that we need to take to ensure justice and fairness,” without explaining the reasons for the appeal.

Depp’s defense said, “The jury heard the abundant evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself had defamed Depp, in multiple cases. We remain confident in our case, and that ruling will remain in effect.” A note has been sent to the US website Deadline.

Last month, Heard also participated in an interview on Deadline and offered medical documents that “represented years of real-time explanations of what was going on,” she said. The documents have reports since 2011, when the two met.

The actress and Depp made their relationship official in 2012 and married three years later. They broke up in 2016. The actress explained, “There is a magazine with years of notes going back to 2011. Since the beginning of my relationship, they were taken by my doctor, whom I was reporting about the abuse.” In the excerpts presented to the program there are notes that in 2012, according to the doctor, Depp “beat her and threw her against the wall and threatened to kill her.”
