In this week's INEU talks, Neusa Maria Pereira Bojikian Talks with (Unicamp/INCT-INEU). Luis Edgardo Coronado GuelA professor at the University of Arizona in the United States, an important topic in the electoral debate and decisive for voters to choose this or that candidate: the issue of immigration.

Located 100 kilometers from the border between the United States and Mexico, Coronado observes the restrictive nature of many American policies in democratic or republican governments and analyzes the relationship between the two countries regarding this issue. Donald Trump is the one who has separated families, caged aliens, and separated children from their parents.

In an election year, political actors try to further politicize the issue without bothering to criminalize immigrants. “There is a political tendency among voters who are not in touch with border reality to see the border as a crisis point and a danger to the North American nation. Political groups take advantage of this,” says Luis Coronado. In his assessment, there is an urgent need to “raise the awareness of the new generation to understand what is happening in the world in terms of human displacement”.
