One of the tests was conducted on a passenger who came from South Africa and disembarked in Guarulhos on November 23.
He had a negative RT-PCR test, but as he was preparing to return to South Africa, he went to a lab at Guarulhos airport, last November 25, for a return test. At that moment, the two tested positive for Covid-19 and the truth was reported to the Strategic Information Center on Health Surveillance (CIEVS) in São Paulo.

Given the positive results, Albert Einstein’s laboratory took the initiative to conduct genetic sequencing of the samples. The laboratory notified Anvisa of the positive results of the tests and about the start of genetic sequencing procedures on 11/29, and as of today, 11/30, reported that, in previous analyzes, the variant was identified Omicron From Sars-Cov-2, says a note from Anvisa.

According to national protocols, materials must be sent to the Adolfo Lutz Institute (IAL) with the aim of confirming genetic sequences.

Anvisa also chaired the Ministry of Health and the health ministers of the state of São Paulo and municipalities regarding the health event set for Tuesday, 30th, for the adoption of relevant public health measures.
