On June 14, a cooperation protocol was signed between Fundação para a Ciência ea Tecnologia, IP (FCT) and Associação Estação Biológica de Mértola (EBM), regarding the implementation of the “Programme for Research and Development (R&D.) of the Guadiana Valley and Baixo Alentejo”. This program involves awarding a total of 20 PhD scholarships, for 5 years, in the strategic scientific areas of the EBM: biodiversity, agroecology, wild resources and hunting, in a low-density, regional, semi-arid and arid context. The Mediterranean climate is particularly vulnerable to climate change and desertification.
The implementation of this research and development program will depend on establishing partnerships with many universities and national and international research centers. The Universities of Tetouan, Cornell, Oxford and Montpellier are some examples of international institutions that intend to establish partnerships with the research projects that the Egyptian Research Institute proposes to develop.
The first phase of applications for this program will take place later this year.
