Chemist Gelson Bettencourt de Andrade, full professor and rector of graduate studies at Centro Universitário Senai Cimatec, retired professor at the Federal University of Bahia (Ufba) and CNPq research productivity scientist, won the 34th edition of the Admiral Alvaro Alberto Science and Technology Prize. The announcement was made last Friday (1) by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
Created in 1981, the award, a partnership between CNPq, MCTI, and the Brazilian Navy, is the country’s most important award in honoring researchers for scientific or technological work.
The award is awarded annually to one of the three main areas of knowledge, on a rotating basis. In 2022, the award covers the fields of exact sciences, earth and engineering. The other two fields are the humanities and social sciences, and the arts, arts and life sciences.
At Senai Cimatec, one of the projects developed by Dean of Graduate Studies Jailson Andrade is the transformation of the University Center into Senai Cimatec University. Currently, the university center offers nine undergraduate courses in engineering and one in architecture. In addition, there are three master’s courses and two doctoral courses. A degree in medicine is among the institution’s potential new courses.
