New York state reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day on Friday, with 21,027 positive cases, according to available state data.
Prior to this new record, the state had reported 19,942 positive cases of Covid-19 as of January 14, according to the data.
However, hospitalizations linked to Covid-19 are still relatively low.
As of Friday, the state had reported 3,839 hospital admissions linked to Covid-19, compared to the 8,088 Covid-19-related hospital admissions reported on January 14, according to Covid-19 hospital data. At its peak in mid-April 2020, the hospitalization rate for Covid-19 in New York reached nearly 19,000.
Covid-19 data in New York also revealed that positive cases of Covid-19 in the state increased by 154% in less than a week.
As of Friday, the state had reported 21,027 positive cases of Covid-19, which is one and a half times the number of positive cases of Covid-19 reported on Tuesday — which was 8,266 positive cases of Covid-19.
“We must not despise the wave of winter we are facing and must continue to encourage everyone we know to get vaccinated, get a booster, and wear a mask,” New York Governor Hochhol said in a news release Thursday.
The disclosure of the data comes as New York City reported that the rate of positive PCR testing has doubled in a four-day period.
