VLT makes first trip to Gentileza station; It is scheduled to open in January
Today the VLT made its maiden voyage to the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal, which is in the final stage of construction. It is scheduled to open in January. It is estimated that more than 130,000 people pass through the station daily.
The station will integrate different modes of transport: BRT Transbrasil when ready, 14 municipal bus lines and lines 1 and 4 of the VLT.
Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes visited the VLT Operation and Maintenance Center, which extended the track by 700 meters to cross Avenida Francisco Picalho to get from the bus station to the new station area.
“We are confident that, for the first time, we will have something that was expected to be ready in 2018 and 2019, which is a fully operational and fully integrated bus rapid transit system. In practice, it is more or less the following. I am not saying that this is the way Better, but the man will be able to leave Santa Cruz and reach Santos Dumont, using BRT and VLT,” said the mayor.
