The Government of Amapa has received approval to join the UNESCO Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development programme, announced for the period from 2021 to 2030. People's Observatory of the Sea (OMARA) project The Institute of Scientific and Technological Research of Amapa State (Iba) was selected to participate in the activities.

International achievement is the result of collaborative work involving researchers, scientists and the community. The Amara project is funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and implemented by the Government of Amapa. “UNESCO recognizes projects that contribute significantly to the challenges of the Ocean Decade, and for IEPA this is very important, because the coordination of this observatory takes place at the Center for Aquatic Research, which is a recognition of the institution and of the participation of the communities that have participated in this process aimed at protecting our marine resources.” .
