Central and Eastern European countries are facing severe flooding, which has left at least seven dead, including a firefighter in Austria, in addition to missing people.
Several European countries are mobilising for major emergency responses after Storm Boris caused severe flooding in the region.
Tens of thousands of people in Europe were without power and many were forced to leave their homes in badly affected areas to take shelter on higher ground.
The Austrian province surrounding Vienna has been declared a “disaster area”, with local authorities speaking of an “unprecedented extreme situation”.
Rivers overflowed in the Czech Republic, flooding homes and streets, and power was cut off in entire areas.
In Poland, a dam collapsed, sending a wave of water into the town of Stronie Slaskie, southwest of the country. The Polish prime minister said his government would declare a state of natural disaster to mobilize EU resources.
