Friends,

Sheriff Dennis Richards and the Deputy Sheriff’s Association are sponsoring and holding the 3rd annual Columbia County K9 Fundraiser.  This year’s event will once again be at the Columbus Kestrel Ridge on September 9th.  Please come and join us for some golf, to see K9 demo’s, and for lunch.

As some of you know, Deputy Darrell Ward and K9 Maverick left our department as Darrell took a promotion to sergeant for the Columbus Police Department.  K9 Maverick retired from our department.  Deputy Brad Graf and K9 Recon were in a very serious squad crash last September that left Deputy Graf unable to work Recon for the time being.  Deputy Greg Kaschinske stepped up and took K9 Recon and are working as a K9 Unit now.  Recon is assigned to the day shift.  Deputy Mike Schultz and K9 Jax are our newest trained K9 Unit.  Jax is young but doing a great job already.  He is currently assigned to pm shift.

We hope to purchase a 3rd K9 later this winter.  Our K9’s can search buildings, provide crowd control, assist in security at the jail, sniff out drugs, search for missing persons, track wanted suspects, and find hidden and discarded evidence. They also do community demonstrations and school visits.

On behalf of Sheriff Richards, thank you for all of your support the past 2 years.

A special thanks to Sgt. Mike Haverley who has led this fundraiser and made it the success that it is.  It is because of each and every one of our supporters and colleagues that we are able to have these K9 units.  We depend on this fundraiser to support the entire K9 Program.

Thank you again for always supporting us.  It is appreciated and we hope to see you there.

Roger
