State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass announced today that Milwaukee won the bid to host the 2012 National Association of State Treasurers’ Annual Conference.

“I wanted to share with my colleagues across the country the state I love so much,” Treasurer Sass said. “The convention is a chance to showcase not only Milwaukee but all of Wisconsin. Plus, with all the visitors this convention usually brings to the host city, it’s a great economic opportunity for Milwaukee and the state.”

The National Association of State Treasurers functions as an educational organization for State Treasurers and their staff as well as a public policy organization that helps develop and promote programs administered in each state. NAST also functions as a liaison for State Treasurers to communicate concerns on pending legislation at the federal level that could affect state programs.

“I’d like to thank the Milwaukee Visitors and Convention Bureau for their help with our presentation as well as Governor Jim Doyle, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker for the letters they wrote to the State Treasurers touting Wisconsin and Milwaukee,” Treasurer Sass said.
