The fifth and final clean up day on Spring Creek was scheduled for Saturday, September 19. However that day has been canceled. The new date is Saturday, September 26th. Our work crews have  been small over the summer of 2009. But progress has been good. It is now possible to paddle from Goeres Park to the lake in a kayak and get out of your boat only once. You also currently need to duck under about five branches. Because of a canoe’s higher profile, it is necessary to exit your boat 4 to 5 times to portage around fallen trees. On August 22nd, Bill Welch, Patti Herman, Jean Hofmann and myself put in a full day and made  significant progress.  Thanks also to Tom Heberlien and his friend Mr. Baxter, Bill Haupt, Bill  Peterson, Brian Larsen  and Charlie Luthin for their volunteer time in June and July. We have an excellent shot at removing the remaining deadfalls on the 26th of September. So please help make that possible by volunteering on the 26th. Please notify me in advance if you can come. I can then have enough donuts and coffee for all. Meet at 8:30 AM at the first bridge north of Lodi on Highway 113. We’ll be waiting for  you with your donut and hot coffee. Please bring loppers, water and some snacks.
