Calling all Would-be and For-real Designers to Enter Logo Contest

Do you like drawing?  Handy with Photoshop, or InDesign?  Want a chance to win $200?  Then get your entry into the Lodi Optimist Mother’s Day Half Marathon and 5K Run Logo Contest.

Lodi Optmist's Mother's Day Run SignThe Lodi Optimist Mother’s day Half Marathon and 5K run is having a logo contest for a new logo design for the 2012 race.  One $200 cash prize will be awarded for first place. Entries will be judged by Activate Lodi/Optimist Club of Lodi based on originality, creativity and how representative the entry is of the event.  We are sharing our Design brief with the community and hope we see lots of entries. Deadline for submittal is Oct 14th.

Contest details

This is a free contest, no entry fee is required.  The contest is open to community and youth groups, school groups, businesses and individuals of all ages.

All entries must be mailed to “Lodi Mother’s Day Run, 218 S. Main St Ste A, Lodi, WI 53555” and postmarked by the contest entry deadline.

The winning entry agrees to grant the Activate Lodi/Optimist Club of Lodi/ Lodi Mother’s Day Run full use of the graphics for all print media, T-shirts, internet advertising, laser etching on awards, etc. for the purpose of promoting the event.  As such the graphic must be suitable for these uses.

Client: Activate Lodi

Project: Lodi Optimist Mother’s Day Run Commemorative T-shirt

Entry Deadline: 10/14/11

Brand Message: We are a small rural community working towards a supporting healthy and active population on the issues of health, fitness and safety

Activate Lodi Goal: Activate Lodi seeks a commemorative T-shirt design to promote the event and provide a souvenir to the wearer for finishing a unique race that is particularly tough.

Purpose: The T-shirt provides a visible means of promoting the event and sponsors.

Logo should easily translate to these uses and elements:

  • T-Shirts
  • Print Collateral
  • Direct mail flyers
  • Print local newspapers
  • Posters
  • Internet
  • Laser etching on awards

 

Submitting your design

Final submittal should be in the following formats

1. Hi-resolution color and B&W (300dpi) suitable for print

2. Regardless of the actual logo design, we also need the Logo converted to outline only with same .005 line weight – for laser cutting awards (We need all the art single line weight for most economical laser burn.   Complexity of the design would complicate this laser process so please take this into account. Preferably in Corel draw format 12 or x5.  No Raster cutting.)

3. Color and B&W Logo files – PDF, native files InDesign, and jpg

4. Entries must be provided in .pdf, .jpg and InDesign native electronic files and three printed copies.

 

Design

Kids 5K runners - image by Wendy SoucieThe design should consider the various uses intended.  As such a simple design may translate better to the various print and laser etching formats.

Logo Design must include “Lodi Optimist’s Mother’s Day Run” prominently in the graphic.

The color pallet shall be two colors:

  • Pink and Black
  • Pink shall be – #F3686D -Salmon (Hexadecimal web); Pantone 184M; CMYK- 0, 76, 33, 0; RGB-251,100,125 or close equal.

 

The graphic must be suitable for printing on the front of white (lady’s), gray (men’s) and white (5k unisex) t-shirts.

 

Tag Lines

The run course is a very challenging one.  We would like to promote this difficulty, as such additional tag lines such as “One Mother of a Run”, “I Survived …” and/or similar text and graphics are welcomed.

 

About the Race

The event is a half marathon and 5k on a challenging, scenic and hilly course.  Kids .5 and 1 mile runs are also included.  The event is family oriented, community based with all proceeds going to benefit local youth.  The race course is on quiet rural roads in the Town of Lodi and Town of West Point, including the recently named State of Wisconsin Rustic Road 110.  There are views of Gibraltar Rock, prairie ponds, Baraboo Bluffs and many rural homes and farms.
