Owen and Olivia and their fir trees from the first Farmer's Market of 2010

We came, our vendors came and you came to shop at the opening day of the Lodi Valley Farmers’ market last Friday. BRAVO to all!! 14 vendors came from winter’s hibernation to bring you their best. Many of the usual sellers with honey, buffalo, craft and sea food were in their traditional locations. Regular customers flocked back and were greeted as old family friends. We were delighted to welcome new vendors including O & O Trees and Treasures. O & O just happen to be a third grader, Olivia and her younger brother, Owen. They brought lovely balsam fir trees, homemade dog treats and bundled fire wood for tourist campfires. Whatever amazing future lies ahead for those two, it all will have started at the Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market in 2010.

How many times have you heard about how beautiful the early spring of 2010 has been? The proof was with the fresh asparagus, spinach, water cress, baby bok choy and onions at vendors tables. Friday promises to be even better with radishes, more asparagus, spinach and if the weather warms up, perhaps morels. I’m expecting the early bedding plants to be for sale as well.

Thanks to Columbia county and Barb Moericke of Barbara Moericke, CMT & Associates who does wonderful massage therapy, we’ll be celebrating Arbor day in grand “give away” style. Trees will be available to you at no charge. Stop by the market table to pick one up. Plant a tree, make the Lodi Valley even more beautiful.

See you at the market Friday 2-6 Market Park-Northern Edge Hwy 113 and Hwy J.
