US announces $3 billion donation to Green Climate Fund

The US government has announced that it will donate USD 3 billion this Saturday (December 2, 2023). GCF (Green Climate Fund, in Portuguese).

The announcement was made by North American Vice President Kamala Harris at COP28 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change) in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) this Saturday (December 2, 2023).

“I’m proud to announce a new $3 billion commitment to the Green Climate Fund, which helps developing countries invest in clean energy and sustainable solutions.”The Democratic Party announced.

The US State Department also issued a statement regarding the decision (completeness – PDF – 119 kB). However, the White House pledge still needs the approval of the US Congress.

The Green Climate Fund was created by 194 countries following the Copenhagen Accord reached during COP15. It was proposed in 2009 and established in 2010.

Participation of the US Vice President at COP28 Confirmed Wednesday (Nov. 29) at the White House. The US delegation includes Climate Ambassador John Kerry and officials representing 20 US government departments and agencies.
