Singer Ed Sheeran will perform during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Gala. In total there will be 4 days of events, starting on June 2. “It will be a great opportunity to bring everyone together,” said the British pop star.
Ed Sheeran will perform outside Buckingham Palace on Sunday 5 June at Platinum Jubilee Pageant, a major show that will also feature other UK music, film, sports and arts stars such as George Ezra, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Elton John, Shirley Bassey and Ricky Martin.
The Platinum Jubilee marks the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, the country’s longest-reigning monarch.
“The show will be global, but I recognize the UK’s creativity and innovation,” a source told People. Organizers say the pictures should be displayed on the walls of Buckingham Palace so that the public can enjoy the show. “It will be a sight for the eyes – both in public and on television,” the source added.
According to People magazine, organizers are calling the event a “People’s Contest” and remain apprehensive about details of Ed Sheeran’s performance, including how and whether he will sing a version of Great Britain’s anthem.
“I’ll say ‘wait and see. We don’t want to keep secrets but we are trying to curb today’s surprises,'” show director David Zolkwer said at a news conference in London on Tuesday.
Sheeran said in a statement, “I am looking forward to performing at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Queen Contest in June. I am proud to be a part of the celebration and it will be a great opportunity to bring everyone together.”
Events in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee also include Trooping the Color, the annual parade to celebrate the Queen’s birthday, as she appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace accompanied by members of the royal family. In addition, the schedule also includes Thanksgiving Mass and the Derby horse race at Epsom Downs.
